How is CBD oil produced
How is CBD oil produced

Date

CBD (cannabidiol) is a natural extract from the hemp plant. It is a herbal compound that has a variety of benefits for the mind and body, which can help to improve overall well-being. Soji Health offers products that contain full-spectrum CBD extract. These products contain a variety of beneficial terpenes and compounds that work together to increase the effectiveness of the product.

We obtain our CBD from the United States where all Soji Health products undergo triple testing by independent laboratories to ensure their composition and effectiveness. Three separate tests by third-party labs result in CBD products that are exactly as advertised – the composition of the ingredients, the percentage of CBD, and the complete lack of THC are all verified by professionals.

Hemp is grown for various uses

Hemp is grown for a number of reasons, but mainly for its fiber and seeds. It is an ideal natural fiber for textiles, which means that hemp is an organic and environmentally-friendly product for clothing and other materials. The seeds are used for food or they are pressed to extract the hemp seed oil. Soji Health products do include hemp seed oil in their composition

Industrial hemp is grown outdoors in crops, much like cereals and other agricultural plants. However, hemp grown for its fiber is planted very close together which encourages tall growth, whereas hemp cultivated for its seeds are given more space to encourage the growth of flower heads. Each hemp plant is individually nursed and examined to ensure that it grows flowers and seeds with the correct levels of CBD.

CBD oil is produced from hemp flowers

When the plants have reached maturity, they are harvested and left to dry slowly. Only the flowers are used to produce high-quality CBD oil, so they are cut from the stems and sent to a processing facility. Here, the flowers are crushed and ground into a fine mulch before undergoing carbon dioxide extraction. This is a process where solid carbon dioxide is gently heated and pressurized into a liquid solvent that absorbs and extracts the oil from the hemp mulch. The liquid carbon dioxide solvent is non-toxic and results in a cleaner extraction process.

The pressure of the carbon dioxide can be varied to extract specific components and other compounds in the hemp mulch. This is how full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, or isolated CBD are produced. It allows the manufacturer to fine-tune their extract and exclude unwanted compounds from the CBD oil. It also allows them to tailor the beneficial compounds, such as flavonoids and terpenes, that they want to include in the final product.

Carbon dioxide is distilled to extract CBD

Once the liquid carbon dioxide has absorbed the necessary compounds from the hemp mulch, it undergoes two processes of distillation to leave behind pure CBD oil. The first process is called winterization and the second is called short path distillation. Winterization is the process that removes unwanted elements from the carbon dioxide extraction, such as fats, waxes, and lipids. This step is not always necessary, but the CBD oil will be crude and in need of refining for high-quality products.

To refine the oil, it is combined with 200 proof alcohol and placed in a freezer overnight (hence the term ‘winterization’). The next day, the mixture will appear cloudy, which means that it is ready for filtration. There are various methods of filtration but they all remove the unwanted elements, leaving behind the alcohol and CBD oil. To remove the alcohol, the mixture is heated to burn off the alcohol as its boiling point is lower than that of CBD oil.

To further refine the CBD extract, it is put through a process called short path distillation. Like winterization, this process allows the manufacturer to separate specific components based on their differing boiling points. The CBD extract is heated and the unwanted substances are boiled off. The vapors from the heated extract travel through a distillation tube comprising cooling coils that condense the gas into a liquid. This liquid then drips down into a collection container where specific compounds are isolated.

This process continues until only pure CBD oil is left behind. Not all of these steps are necessary – only isolated CBD products require all of these processes. It depends on the manufacturer’s specifications and requirements for other compounds. Soji Health products contain full-spectrum CBD oil, which means that many of the beneficial compounds are left behind in the extract. This is turned into various Soji Health creams, oils, lotions and gummies.
